End Of Year Video :Reflection
Hey there it's Simply, Ann and this blog is going to be over my first semester experience in Video Production.
PSA: For this project we had to crate a public service announcement or PSA about and anything we wanted. My group after having many different and ideas and concepts, we decided to do online safety. The storyline was based on the newly adopted term "catfishing". In this society when we think of online predators we associate it with men. This is truly not in the case, in which we wanted to capture in our video. Since an average PSA is only thirty seconds to a minute, the whole process took about a week to do. Majority of my group had a busy schedule so that was the only challenge we had faced. This problem was easily resolved because we all had Saturday off. We used this opportunity to film everything in that one day. Along the way I learned a variety of different stylistic shots because of my role as cinematographer. Also I learned how to do chat bubbles although I wasn't very good at it. Overall we recieved very positive feedback. Everyone enjoyed our editor Brett's adaptation to the film. If I could change anything I wish I could go back and learn more from Brett on what he did in after effects. This was one of my favorite projects so far, and I really enjoyed how cohesive my group worked together.
Short Film: This project we had to create a Short film that was of course school appropriate and with the maximum length of 10 minutes. This was my least favorite project that we did because of all the difficulty my group had. These challenges included scheduling, procrastination, and indecisiveness. Those challenges led to even bigger troubles that result in our group starting over half way into the week. Even with all of our hardships we managed to get our film done on time. Along the way I learned many communication skills, as well as mediating skills. When we watch our film in class we got mixed reactions. Some people thought the film felt unfinished, which I can agree on. While others thought it was an appropriate length but the color grading was off. If I could go back I was change many things such as becoming a better project manager in addition to planning more in pre-production. Overall I still enjoyed the process though it was a journey.
Feature Film: I did't do very much in this process so far because I wasn't a scriptwriter but I liked helping come up with story development as well as demographics.
Class Time: In class I used my time mostly wisely. I say this because I did sometimes, occasionally, watch Netflix, but who doesn't like to watch Netflix. Other than that I have work on client work. If I finished something early I spend my time usually watching and getting inspired by other students short films; I also edit some of my own. Outside of class I have taken up the passion for photography in addition to film. I have taken a lot of senior photos for my friends and family.
Areas of Strength & Improvement: An area of strength that I have is dedication, when I have completed a project I am always thinking about ways to improve it. An area of improvement would be time management, making sure I've turn in everything on time and turn in my projects to google classroom. To improve this I will set a reminder on my phone daily to finish or turn something in, in addition to coming in before or after school.
Guest Speakers: For our first guest speaker I got an in depth understanding of production roles. Our second guest speaker was a lot more relatable then the first, in which I learned more what it's like to get a job after college and how to get known for what you do. I also learned a lot more about branding.
Summary: This semester I loved the PSA and I have a feeling that I am going to love our feature film even more. Furthermore, I really enjoy being with the seniors because they are great mentors to us juniors. I don't think I would change anything necessarily because I've learned from those mistakes and I will continue to. One goal I would like to set is to explore my editing and cinematography skills.
