No Film School Blog Post

Hey there it's Simply, Ann and I am coming right back at you with another blog. Today I'm going to be discussing the topic of costume design. Recently I read an article on the No Film Schools website. This particular article tells you why costume designers are the secret heroes in cinema. It even suggests in the article that costume designer often don't get the recognition they deserve. The main job of a costume designer is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the means of clothing he or she will wear to enhance characterization. The article says it best when they say "behind every memorable character is a meticulously chosen wardrobe." In real life we can safely assume much about a person by the clothes they wear; the same with a character. Having a group of characters dressed similarly implies they are a group of with similar intentions. The article uses many examples of great costume design work such as Gone With the Wind and Star Wars. Overall Costume design is a tool filmmakers use to tell their stories. It defines a character before the actor even opens their mouth. As always thanks for reading

xoxo Simply, Ann
