Semester Final (Video Production)
Hey there it's Simply, Ann, Not only do I have to do a Graphic design reflection, I also have to do a video. Don't worry it's a little bit different, as always thanks for reading!
Simply, Ann
This semester our focus was on entertainment which included a music video, a high school trailer, and a short film. Our first project was to recreate or make your own music video, my group chose the song Company by Justin Bieber. Because the video was to complicated we decided not to recreate it. The process took about 3 weeks to complete this include preproduction as well as filming. Challenges we faced with the Music video was collaborating and filming. Since everyone had such busy schedules during the time we could film only another group member and I were actually able to work with our actors and film. Another problem was collaborating, my group sometimes didn't take others opinions into consideration when editing. It was more of a monarchy then a democracy. Other than those problems are experience went smoothly. Along the way I learned how to speak up when i had a suggestion, as well as how to handle difficult situations. Feedback that we got was to watch our white balance and make the clips flow a little smoother, which we changed shortly after. When we watched the video I actually really enjoyed it, it was cute and romantic just how we wanted it to be.
The second video project that we did on the focus of entertainment was our High school trailer. Similar to the music video our project was to recreate any high school trailer. After watching for what it seemed like a billion high school trailer, we fell upon The Duff. This project took about a month to do. Challenges I faced in this one was time management. The trailer we chose had a lot of different scenes in a variety of different locations. We spent most of our time filming the shot that we barely had time to edit. Not only did our trailer have numerous different shots it also had many different editing techniques that we had to learn in order for our trailer to look similar. This include me spending most of my nights staying after school to complete it. I learned many things for this project such as how to do a rolling title on premiere pro as well as sound effects. I learned to manage my time in addition to how to use a dolly. The class liked how my trailer stayed true to the original and how I went the extra mile to obtain my shots. However they agreed that my audio was a little of and my editing was a little choppy. Keeping the critiques in mind I reedited those scenes. Overall I really think my group did a great job for the time span we were given.
The last projected we did for entertainment was our short films. In preparation we were all assigned to writ a treatment and eventually a script following that treatment for the class. Later our teacher put us into groups randomly. My group chose Lina's script because it was beautifully written and would be the easiest to capture through the lens. This project was lengthy because we had to do heaps of things before we could start filming like you do with most filming projects this includes storyboards, production roles, and schedules. A challenge we faced was scheduling. Having conflicting schedules was hard but we eventually found a good date and film all of it on that day. What I learned from this project is that music is actually really important to interpret the mood of your film. Another thing that I learned is to make sure your actor knows what your looking for in your film. Feedback that we got was that they loved how our film turned a dark situation into light, also to beware of jump cuts. I overall thought our film was great especially the story behind it. I also would agree with the feedback that we did have a few jump cuts.
throughout this semester I feel that I used my time wisely for the most part. Though I tend to get sidetracked with my friends, I still was very dedicated to getting my film done and helped my group. Outside of class I stay after school a lot when it was needed and have several conversations with my various groups about when to film.
An area of strength that I have is dedication, when I have completed a project I am always thinking about ways to improve it. An area of improvement would be time management, making sure I've turn in everything on time and turn in my projects to google classroom. To improve this I will set a reminder on my phone daily to finish or turn something in, in addition to coming in before or after school.
what I loved about this semester is the overall atmosphere of the class. Everybody got along and we were able to share a lot of memorable moments. I wouldn't change a thing because if I did I wouldn't have learn what I did from it. Instead of changing my mistakes I will use what I learned from them and apply it to my future experiences. Overall this semester told me a lot about myself and how I handle situations. One goal I would like to set for next year is to try and turn in everything on time.
